WWF Called on Fishermen to Protect the Barents Sea

Now in the Russian part of the Barents Sea most of the fish is caught by bottom trawls, which destroy coral and sponge forests, and this may lead to a decrease in biodiversity. A complete ban on bottom trawling is not on speech, however, it is quite possible to limit it within the boundaries of the most vulnerable ecosystems. In addition, the introduction of more modern fishing gear will reduce DNA damage by 70-80%, according to the Fund experts.

WWF has already managed to sign an agreement with the Union of Fishermen of the North (Murmansk). In the future, the joint efforts of scientists and fishermen will improve the ecology of fisheries in the Arctic.
