Unusual City of Lights Spotted by NASA Satellite Over The Atlantic

20.12.2013

An unusual cluster of bright lights was spotted by one of NASA satellites passing the southwestern part of the Atlantic. The researchers called it 'the city of lights'. It was located not far from the Argentina coast. A strange phenomenon was spotted by hypersensitive radiometer, mounted on the satellite Suomi NPP. However there are neither any inhabited islands nor drilling platforms in these places!

Weird lights never spotted before appeared to be just fishing boats

However the answer to the riddle was found pretty quickly. It is the lights of a boat fleet fishing at night. It is believed that the bright light attracts argentine squid, which are essential to world market of seafood. The same way, with the bright lights on their boats, fishermen catch squid around the world, for instance, in Southeast Asia.
