Switzerland Banned Seal Skin Import

From 1 April, Switzerland has banned the import of hides, meat and subcutaneous fat of seals. The decision was made by the country's parliament.

Switzerland Banned Seal Skin Import

The new law has a number of exceptions: for example, if seals were killed by Eskimos during traditional hunting, skins can be imported when the relevant documents are presented.

In addition, you are allowed to import souvenirs made of seal fur, as well as exhibits and materials for research works.

Switzerland has become the 35th country to abandon the import of seal products. The list of countries that have imposed such a ban includes Russia. The main reason is humanitarian considerations. According to statistics, 98% of the killed seals are pups aged between two weeks and three months, and they are killed in the cruelest manner, clogging with cudgels.
