Spain to Receive Biofuel from Wastewater

05.04.2017

With the support of the European Commission in Spain, the Life Metha-morphosis project is being implemented, which will receive biomethane at the treatment facilities. This type of fuel can be used for cars and other modes of transport working on gas.

Spain to Receive Biofuel from Wastewater

Biomethane will be produced during the breakdown of solid organic waste with special bacteria. New equipment will be specially installed at wastewater treatment plant in Barcelona. Then, nitrogen will be removed from biogas. Test installations have not begun yet, but prototypes have already been created.

The authors of the project expect to clean up about 10,000 cubic meters of sewage every day, receiving 1,000 cubic meters of biomethane, which is enough to provide fuel for 150 cars for a journey of 100 kilometers.
