US scientists have found the reason why one of the subglacial lakes of Greenland dried twice in 1995 and 2011.
Satellite image helped to make the research. With their help, they found out that the water went from the lake through a kind of sewage, hidden in the depths of the glacier and consisting of tunnels. The process of filling and emptying is likely cyclical. Understanding this mechanism will help to predict the speed of movement of the ice sheet.
