Santiago Faces Serious Drinking Water Shortages

25.01.2013

Catastrophe hit the capital of Chile, Santiago. Its citizens don't have an access to drinking tap water for several days now. What led to the catastrophe was the pollution of the Maipo River, main water source for Chile's capital.

Santiago currently stays without drinking water

Authorities of Chile say that the Maipo River was polluted by a recent mudslide in the Andes. Right now all water treatment plants of Santiago are currently closed. Besides that, municipal authorities issued a ban on all restaurants, bars and other public food spots. It is not clear yet when the situation in the city returns to normal.
