Saint-Petersburg Took Fourth Place in the Cleanest Cities Rating in Russia


At the end of the summer, St. Petersburg was one of the cleanest cities in our country. The rating was compiled by the NGO "Green Patrol", while taking into account the effectiveness of solving environmental problems and the active participation in the events of the Year of Ecology.

Data for the assessment were obtained from the local authorities official reports, from the media, from the reports of the Ministry of Emergencies and Roshydrometcenter, as well as from ordinary citizens who left their complaints on the Green Patrol hotline. Also, they conducted their own field research. The results look as follows: the first place went to Tambov region, the second one went to the Republic of Altai, the third place went to the Altai Krai, the fourth place went to St. Petersburg, the fifth place went the Chuvash Republic. Moscow did not enter the TOP 5 and took the seventh place due to air pollution. The northern capital got in the top five for the first time since the rating existence, from 2007.

The Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Moscow, Irkutsk and Bryansk regions, as well as Sevastopol and the Leningrad Region turned out to be the least prosperous from the ecological point of view.
