Architectural firm NBBJ designed the project, which will return the Londoners traditional winter fun – skating on the Thames. The river has not been freezing for two hundred years, however the authors of the idea were not confused. Rinks will be located on the round shape pull-out dams. They will be immersed into the river, but placed at shallows, so that the water could freeze. Navigation on the Thames continues, and rollers will not interrupt it. The main thing is that this winter was cold – this month the capital of the UK is beating all records of heat.

Until the early 1830s, London bridge restricted the flow of water, and only separate sections of the river froze. They were gladly used to skating by the citizens.
