A study, published in the American journal Ā«ScienceĀ», found that the main polluter of the world's oceans was China. Next there are Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Egypt, Malaysia (pictured), Nigeria and Bangladesh. Leaders of the rating produce about 2.4 million tons of plastic debris that get into the seas and oceans during a year. According to experts, it is about a third of all plastic entering the world's oceans during a year. It was found that in total 192 countries in the world produce about 275 tons of plastic waste per year, and about 3% of it get into the ocean.

However, Asian and African countries are not the only ones in the rating. Next ten positions of the list include European countries that have access to the sea. And at last, the US takes 20th place. Previously, scientists had questions: why, despite the fact that every year there is more and more plastic in the oceans, no live monitoring finds it? It turned out that plastic breaks down into small fibers, which are not visible to the eye, which are then accumulate on the seabed and ocean floor. It is not yet possible to rate the full scale of the disaster.
