New Horizons space bore transmitted new pictures of Pluto to Earth - this time colored ones. It turned out that the accumulation of ice on the surface of a celestial body are red.

Pluto Ice Turned Out to Be Red

Scientists can not yet explain the reason for the unusual color of frozen water. Presumably, Pluto ice reacts with reddish organic particles, tholins, which are formed in the upper atmosphere as the result of nitrogen and methane ionization. These particles reflect sunlight, so there is a blue haze around the planet, reminding of Earth's skies.
