Usually the Black Sea has a dark blue color in images from space, justifying its name. Now on the surface of the sea turquoise swirls are visible, especially they are noticeable in the Crimea, as well as off the coast of Romania and Bulgaria.

Scientists explain that such a change is associated with the seasonal flowering of coccolithophorids, microscopic algae that produce calcium carbonate - this substance makes the water more light. This year there is the largest number of "turquoise vortices" since 2012.
