Lake in Chile Rises Due to volcano

Scientists have found that a lake in the Chilean Andes, located in the volcanic field of Laguna del Maule years rose to 67 meters in the last 10 thousand.

According to experts, the cause of this phenomenon could be magma, which has long been under the lake and freezes, forming a huge dome, gradually «growing» up.

Over the past eight years the lake has risen by almost two meters. Such processes reveal the volcano's activity, and may hide the threat of a disaster, so experts recommend to observe the region carefully. In average, the eruptions occur at Laguna del Maule every 400-500 years. The last time it happened over 450 years ago.
