Lake Proval in Pyatigorsk Came out of the Shores Due to Heavy Rains

Strong rains in the Stavropol region led to the fact that the famous Lake Proval in Pyatigorsk overflowed, and the water flowed out onto the square. Local residents and tourists with pleasure walked barefoot on warm puddles.

Water in the Lake Proval has a temperature of 26 to 40 degrees Celsius. An unusual turquoise color is given to it by special bacteria and sulfur.

According to the officials, there is nothing supernatural in the flood: the lake has been flooded before. There is no danger, and in the near future the water level will decrease.

The Lake Proval is of karst origin and is located in a cave on the Mount Mashuk southern slope. Its average depth is about 11 meters.
