Lake Michigan Showed Its Bottom

Amazing water clarity in Lake Michigan allowed Traverse City Coast Guard to make stunning pictures from the air. Outlines of the ships sunk back in the past two centuries are clearly visible at the bottom of the lake. Such a unique allowed to identify some of the ships - for example, the «Rising Sun» of 1917 and the «James McBride» of 1857.

The largest lake of the US becomes transparent in spring during the transitional period. In April it is completely free of ice. However, the water temperature is still low, and the lake has no time to become muddy because of the rapidly proliferating algae and precipitation. The lake Michigan is deep enough. At some points it reaches a depth of almost three hundred meters.
