Today you can watch the amazing natural phenomenon on the Great Lakes in the north-eastern United States, the eruption of ice volcanoes. Water mixed with crushed ice comes out to the surface of frozen lakes. It is a rare natural phenomenon which can usually be seen in the January - February, but this time the volcano woke up a month earlier than usual. The best places to observe the water volcanoes are the east coast of Lake Erie and Ontario. Hundreds of tourists and locals, armed with cameras have been already caught up there.

Ice Volcanoes Awakened in America

In fact, experts say, with real ice volcano eruptions have little in common: this is not due to tectonic activity, but because of the streams. They create a powerful pressure of the water surface on the ice. After some time, the ice surface is destroyed and ice jet breaks out. After that even more ice freezes around the crater and volcanoes become higher. This year the ice cover on the Great Lakes began to shape much earlier, so volcanoes appeared earlier too.
