Great Lakes in USA are loosing their greatness and depth

11.02.2014

Five large Lakes located on the Canada–United States border, so-called Great Lakes, became less deep last two decades. Scientis have not found out the causes of this process yet. Formerly lakes depth was swaying in a 12-years cycle: water level was raising during 6 years and decreasing during another 6 years. However, since 1998 (last 16 years) the water level in Great Lakes has been only decreasing.

Since 1998 (last 16 years) the water level in Great Lakes has been only decreasing

Experts assume that it's connected with amount of precipitations in this area of North America and with water evaporation intensity which depends on air temperature. Though the scientist still haven't managed to clarifiy why natural balance was impaired. Great lakes is a unique place, there is a variety of fish and birds nesting on the shores. The decrease of water level can destroy the whole ecosystem.
