Giant Glacier in Antarctica Began to Melt

Totten Glacier, one of the largest on the planet, decreases in volume. Scientists have found that melting occurs under the influence of ocean currents that bring warm water flows.

Giant Glacier in Antarctica Began to Melt

Having examined water samples and satellite data for the last 10 years, experts have created a model that predicts the further melting of the glacier. So, in 2017, Totten weight loss will achieve at least 63 billion tons, maximum 80 billion tones, and about 10 meters thick.

Full melting of the glacier will cause the increase of sea levels by 3.5 meters. This is a catastrophic level, however, changes will occur gradually over several centuries, and the inhabitants of the Earth still have time to prepare.
