China Wants to Use Sky River to Fight Drought

Scientists and local authorities intend to implement the project, which involves the creation of artificial clouds in the driest of Chinese provinces – Qinghai. On the Tibetan plateau, on the border between the troposphere and atmosphere, it is planned to spray chemical reagents to cause precipitation and re-do the Yellow River full-flowing.

China Wants to Use Sky River to Fight Drought

Spray zone is called by Chinese meteorologists the «sky river», in their opinion, exactly on this plot there is a constant transportation of water vapor. It will be possible to follow streams and to choose a goal for weather missiles via satellite.

The government is ready to invest in the construction of facilities necessary for the implementation of this plan. However, some experts have criticized the idea. It is noted that the existence of sky river is not confirmed by research, and it is extremely difficult to predict the behavior of water vapor in the atmosphere. In addition, the creation of artificial clouds will increase the rainfall only by 10%, which does not solve the problem of shortage of fresh water in the region, say the skeptics. To substantially change the situation so many aircraft and missiles will be need, that no budget will stand this.
