James Cook University Specialists (Australia) have found that small reef fish Cardinal is able to find her way in the dark, using a magnetic field.

Cardinal Fish are Guided by Internal Compass

A built-in navigator helps the fish to navigate in the night. In the experiment the specimen caught near the Great Barrier Reef were studied. First, all the subjects swam in the South-East, then, when the magnetic field was changed 120 degrees in a clockwise direction, they turned to the West still thinking that they were heading in the right direction.

Scientists say that the obtained data will help to create a more accurate model of the larvae of reef fish distribution, which is important for maintaining stable supplies.
