Boiling Water Determined Mars Relief

Specialists of the University of Nantes (France) have came up with a new version of the origin of the mysterious black stripes on Mars. The experiment, conducted under conditions that imitate the surface of the Red Planet, has shown that these traces could be left by the streams of boiling water.

Boiling Water Determined Mars Relief

Using a special camera, scientists were able to create a model of Martian hill on top of which a piece of ice was placed. As it turned out, in the conditions of Mars melted water not just drips down, but also boils. Active evaporation leads to the emission of grains, and, consequently, to landslides. As the result of the study strips, almost identical to the Martian ones, were obtained. According to the authors of the experiment, the boiling water has largely determined the relief of the planet, on which the existence of liquid salt water became known last year.
