Biobank for Pacific Ocean Data Storage will be Opened in Vladivostok

On May 16 at the National Scientific Center for Marine Biology of the RAS (Vladivostok) a biobank will be opened, where scientists plan to collect samples of all the Pacific Ocean flora and fauna kinds.

The most advanced equipment will allow specialists to store bio-samples at any temperature. A scanning probe microscope will help to obtain a digital three-dimensional image of a living cell.

In the framework of scientific investigations, it is necessary to study the genome of marine mammals and other species, including those listed in the Red Book. The main goal of the project is to collect all species diversity of the Pacific Ocean, at least - the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
