Baywatch: Now Featuring Robots

Robots would work as lifesavers in Japan. Definitely they are not as hot as Baywatch stars, but they could swim a lot faster.

First lifesaver robot, Swumanoid, is now being developed at the University of Tokyo. It can swim on its back and crawl. It swims using its upper limbs, reaching speed of 6 meters per second. Now scientists work on his lower limbs, so that it could swim breaststroke as well. Now it is still a concept: researchers teach the robot how to swim and control this process with cameras and 3D scanners it is equipped with.
