This operation is important for practice. Today seal fishery (Baikal endemic) is allowed for native ethnic people from Baikal and Transbaikalia, who can get not more than 10% of the seal population per year. According to rough estimates, there are 70 to 100 seals in Baikal and according to accurate number the authorities will determine the size of the quota. Aerial survey will be held during the puppies feeding - from February to April 2014 and now hang-gliders are examining the pollution of the lake.
