Oceanographers are going to conduct the first attempt to count all living sharks. Video cameras will help them to perform this difficult task, they will be located on 400 underwater reefs.

A bait will be fixed to make sharks look into the lens of each camera. By 2018, experts expect to receive data on shark populations throughout the world.

Shark census will also help determine how the marine predators affect coral reefs. Another goal of this project, called Global FinPrint, is to recall that sharks are an integral part of the ecosystem, and the planet needs them. Meanwhile, at least 100 million sharks are killed annually for their meat and fins, which can cause irreparable damage to the underwater world.
